He had just finished his examination at the Cross River University of Technology where he studied engineering. He has spent the last five years in that school and hoped to graduate this year.
But on Monday, just after he left the examination hall, he was brought down by some guys suspected to be cultists. While some said James was shot and killed, others said he was actually axed to death. His assailants made sure he had breathed his last before they left him.
There have been various reasons for his killing. But there appears to have been a consensus that the late James, known in the social media circles as Jay Real, may have been killed by a rival cult group in the school.
James is believed to be an indigene of Abi Local Government, though he grew up in Ogoja. The victim appeared to have way back in April had premonition of his unfortunate death. His last Facebook post, on April 14, 2019, at 12:45pm, appears to point to something out of the ordinary.
He wrote; “You can’t fool or kill a man who double checks with God about everything. Focus on your hustle and stay winning”. It is uncertain whether those who shot and killed the deceased knew he had not “double check(ed) with God”.
“I am still in shock, especially when they attacked him with an axe that gave him that deep cut on the left mandible. I have never seen anything like this. Let God enter the hearts of our young men to know that cultism is evil”, a student told an online medium in Calabar.
