Bayelsa Assembly Gets New Speaker

The newly inaugurated sixth session of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly has elected Mr. Tonye Isenah, the member representing Kolokuma/Opokuma Constituency 1 as Speaker of the house.

 

Member representing Yenagoa constituency 11, Mrs. Koku Obiyai nominated Isenah while Ogbia constituency 1 member, Maitama Obordor seconded the nomination.

 

Isenah was declared speaker in the absence of further nominations, while member representing Brass constituency 111, Abraham Ngobere retained his position as deputy speaker.

 

Mr. Monday Bolou Bobo representing Southern Ijaw constituency 11 was elected leader of the house while Bernard Kenibai of Sagbama constituency 11 was returned as deputy leader. 

 

Mrs. Koku Obiyai was elected as the first female Chief Whip of the Bayelsa state house of assembly.

 

The new speaker who is now serving a third term in the House made his first appearance under the platform of the Labour Party and became minority leader. He later decfected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and became Chief Whip of the house.
