Barely two months after the governorship election, kinsmen of the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate, Obong Nsima Ekere have abandoned the Ikot Abasi born politician.
Speaking with our correspondent, Chief Etukudo Etuk, an APC chieftain and former chairman of Mboho Edemaya, an umbrella socio-cultural organization of Edemaya people, (Nsima Ekere's clan) in Ikot Abasi, said he only supported Ekere as a brother, but did not know that APC did not prepare for election in the state.
According to him, the party was only concerned about fan fare and propaganda but did not do any serious work. Etuk, who said he has finalized arrangements to return officially to the PDP in the state, regretted his membership of the APC, describing the PDP's victory as deserving.
A fortnight ago, a retired army officer and chairman of PDP Defenders, Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency Chapter, Eno Umorok, who is also from the area, had advised Ekere to stop wasting his money and time on the tribunal.
Umorok, who is also the coordinator of Akwa Ibom people in the Diaspora, noted that Ekere did not have any sincere supporter. He said his followers saw him as one big cake that must be eaten.
Another APC Chieftain and former chapter chairman of the party from Ikot Abasi, Mr. Anthony Umana, who spoke in the same vein, equally regretted working for the APC. According to him, Ekere did not believe in those who were sincere to him. “He only believed in big names and those were his betrayers”.
Nsima will never pick your calls even when you have urgent and strategic information for him. Those who managed him were all “desperate thieves that would never give you space to get close to the principal, no matter the urgency and importance of your matter.”
He told TNN that Nsima was betrayed and frustrated by those he empowered with contracts and inducements. On his comments about the coming elections petition tribunal, he said, 'I don't see any possibility of winning Udom Emmanuel.
“I agree that the PDP was engaged in massive votes buying. My question is, what happened to the money Ekere gave to his coordinators? Nsima paraded the wrong team and equally surrounded himself with “evil men”; he was hell-bent in his trust on these people. But the PDP had popular and acceptable candidates.
Why on earth did he choose Bernard Udoh from Mkpat Enin who had spent three years in the House of Representatives? Why did he choose Uko Ekpe who had been a local government chairman and one of his highest beneficiaries?
“If he wanted to succeed, he should have chosen someone else from Mkpat Enin for Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency, not Bernard who has spent three miserable terms in the Federal House. And for Ikot Abasi State Constituency, he should have chosen a fresh, popular person from Ukpum Okon or Ikpa Ibekwe clans, who have not produced a state house of assembly member since the creation of the state. My brother, this project died on arrival” he stated.
