A'Ibom People Attack Udom Over Ban On Media Interviews

The recent ban by the state government on press statements and interviews by commissioners, board members, special and personal assistants to the governor has continued to generate heated criticism from the people of Akwa Ibom State.

The government, through the secretary, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, had on Wednesday banned all appointees of the state government from making press statements and interviews without permission from the Governor Udom Emmanuel.

Some members of the public, who spoke with our correspondent, said the ban showed that the state governor had a hidden agenda that he did not want the public to know.

A lecturer in the department of political science, University of Uyo, Dr. Ambrose Udosen, said there's something the governor does not want the public to know, especially as his administration is running to conclusion.”

An educational consultant who also spoke to TNN said the development “clearly expressed the autocratic nature of the governor. Such bans can only happen in the military regime. Does he not have advisers?

Mrs. Regina Udoma, a school teacher believes that the ban is a measure to hide the many lies of the state governor from getting to public notice.

It was gathered that the governor's ban on press interview and statement may not be unconnected with the recent media war between the state commissioner of works, Ephraim Inyangeyen and a former minister, Chief Ndueso Essien  over compensation on the right of way on the dualization of Atabong Ward, Eket.
