Ibom Specialist Hospital Is A Caricature -Ex Commissioner

A foremost Nigerian professor of gynaecology and pioneer state commissioner of health, Professor Asukwo Davis Ekanem has described the celebrated Ibom Specialist Hospital as a caricature of a specialist hospital.

Ekanem, who made the assertion in an interaction with TNN noted that the project was wrongly conceptualized and hurriedly executed for political convenience.

“Before we talk about a specialist hospital, you must have specialist doctors from all areas of medicine who will train others.  Professional advice was not sought before embarking on the project.”

According to him, the project was like preparing to cook soup when there is no pot for the cooking, Ekanem, who contested for governorship seat in the state on the platform of social Democratic Party (SDP), said his administration would have reactivated agriculture, provide technical education for technological take off, provide affordable and sustainable Health-care system, guarantee the development of economically viable infrastructure, among others.

He decried what he described as the collapse of the educational system and pledged that if he had the opportunity, he would, in addition to good, incentives and attractive welfare of teachers, build comfortable staff offices and comfortable staff quarters for primary school teachers across the state.
