Election Results: Calculations Favour Wike As Amaechi's Men Bicker

There are indications that the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike may be favoured in the emerging calculations on the eventual outcome of the governorship elections in the state.

Already, fans of the transportation minister, Rotimi Amaechi who imposed a candidate from an unknown AAC on the state chapter of the APC are showing signs of defeat.

Last week, INEC announced that collation of results in 17 of the 23 local governments had been concluded and the results safely in their custody.

From the results announced in all the units in the 17 local governments, the PDP garnered majority of the votes. The party has already won in 21 out of the 32 state house of assembly seats so far announced by INEC.

The development is already causing panic in Amaechi's camp. One of his media aides, Eze Chukwuemeka, as well as the AAC, have already started complaining, accusing INEC of plotting to return Wike to office by all means.

In a statement in Port Harcourt, Chukwuemeka said "the world is watching with breath-taking attention, the funny game currently being played by the Nigerian INEC, prompted by the internal and external forces that may set Rivers state on unprecedented crisis that may truncate our nascent democracy if not handled carefully.

"It is sad and unfortunate that due to the acts of misgovernance by the present administration in the state, every political commentator now describes the politics of Rivers State in the negative: a government that couldn't pay the salaries of her civil servants or pay the pension of her pensioners.

“A government that has turned the famous Garden City associated with Port Harcourt, now known as the garbage city of Nigeria, a government that has destroyed the education, agriculture, health and other sectors of the state.”
