Two Killed In Fresh War In C'River Communities

Communal crisis bedeviling two neighbouring communities of Erei North, South and Urugbam in Biase Local Government Area in Cross River State deepened on Sunday, with two persons confirmed dead in the renewed clash.

The incident which occurred in the early hours of Sunday was said to have been engineered through Urugbam community which allegedly connived with mercenaries from communities within two neighbouring states of Abia and Ebonyi.

Confirming the incident, a  resident of Erei Community, Mr Chris Edadi said” the people of Urugbam connived with neighbouring communities of Igbo in Ebonyi and Abia States  and invaded the two wards in Erei North and South in the early hours of Sunday which affected three communities; Ebor, Ipene and Umoro”.

Mr Edadi claimed   their plan was to further cause havoc in Abanwan community but repelled the attack, noting that so many casualties have been recorded during the invasion.

“Still not satisfied with all their programmes, their plan is to invade Abanwan community but we oppressed them and so many casualties have been recorded.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Irene Ugbo confirmed the clash while stating that a team of mobile policemen and army has been deployed to the warring communities to maintain peace.

“The commissioner of police has sent our mobile policemen, army and conventional security men to make the place peaceful”.

Ugbo said the command got a report that two persons have already been killed in the clash.

The clashes which first broke out in December last year over the ownership of a piece of land had defied an amicable solution from both communities.
