Nsima, APC Reject Results

The Akwa Ibom State All Progressives Congress, APC, has rejected the result of the March 9 governorship election, describing it as the greatest ridicule of the century.

A former governorship candidate of the Accord Party in the 2015 governorship election and state agent of the APC, Bishop Samuel Akpan, who made the declaration on behalf of the party, during the presentation and collation of results at the state Independent National Electoral Commission office along Udo Udoma Avenue, on Sunday said the APC, had again been robbed of their mandate by the PDP-led state government.

He noted that the result of the election did not reflect the opinion and choice of the people of Akwa Ibom. He disclosed that there were alarming cases of ballot box snatching, massive vote buying, intimidation and harassment of members of his political party and vicious disenfranchisement of APC faithful in Saturday's governorship election across the state.

Akpan noted that his party has all evidences and exhibits, including video clips of irregularities and what he described as broad day robbery of their mandate.

He wondered why many local governments recorded zero for APC, even when the party had chapter and ward officers. He also spotted what he described as reckless fraud in Oron Local Government, where the number of voters almost doubled the number of accredited voters. He maintained that other glaring evidences of fraud and malpractices, including video clips, would be displayed at the right time and place.

On the results from Essien Udim, he noted that the original results where the APC had 14,000 votes against the 6,000 had been submitted to the REC and that the collation officer was not the one that collated for the local government.

Earlier on Saturday, the member representing Ikot Abasi/ Eastern Obolo state constituency in the state House of Assembly, Uduak Odudoh had commended INEC, noting that the electoral umpire had performed creditably well. He however agreed that there are few cases of violence and intimidation of voters in his state constituency.
