Minister of Niger Delta Affairs Usani Uguru Usani has debunked insinuation in certain section of the media that he is working for the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governor Ben Ayade
Usani said the misconception about his relationship with the governor of the state can only be interpreted as timid by those he called green pastures politicians in the state who jump from one pot of bread to another.
Usani has been battling to secure the ticket of the APC. He also has not resigned his appointment as minister, contrary to the provisions of the law.
Because of his role in the crisis in the state chapter of the APC, Usani has been roundly accused of working with the state government, for a fee.
Those who hold this view believe that if Usani were serious about the contest, he would have resigned his appointment and faced the election.
''As Minister of the Niger Delta Affairs of which Cross River State is a part, I must maintained good relationship with the governors for the development of the region, if the development we want to achieve must be carried out.
“Do they expect that I am coming to Cross River to look(sic) a land and build certain facility and I won't relate the governor?”
He added that “ on governance, I must relate with governors in the region including Ben Ayade, irrespective of political parties or affiliations.
So, when criminals who are guilty of conscience lift their attitudes and impose on others to alleged that I am working for Ayade, don't you know them and their antecedence in this state and what they represent”
“Those who said I am working for governor Ben Ayade and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are mischief makers and it will be supported by mischief propaganda.
“You are aware that I contested for governorship twice in this state when I had no stake at all, and overtures were made to me by PDP, and I said I will stay fallow until my conscience is justified to play the politics I want to play.
“If I didn't work for PDP when I had nothing to do, is it now that I am a beneficiary of APC led Federal Government, more so I was party Chairman of APC in 2015, do you think they did not offer me things to support Labour candidates or PDP candidates and I decline, is now that I will go and work for PDP, his aide, Mr Abang Patrick said in a mail to TNN on Monday.”
