Senator John Owan Enoh, Chairman, Senate Committee on Finanace, representing Cross River Central Senatorial district was sworn-in on the 9th of June, 2015. Despite the present economic challenges, Senator John Owan Enoh has maintained accessibility and humility to his constituents (Obubra).
Senator Owan Enoh's tour of duty commenced with a thank you visit to Obubra Local Government Area barely 30 days after he was sworn in. his uncommon visit brought politicians of all capacities (stakeholders) to the Local Government headquarters. He used the occasion to thank and appreciate the people for the higher mandate that they gave to him and pledged to render service to them like never before.
The distinguished Senator appointed a liaison officer and three (3) constituency staff. These staff include one female to serve as the secretary, which underscored the senator's gender sensitivity.
Senator Enoh furnished and commissioned a constituency office in Obubra. The aim is to bring his service and representation closer to the people.
Distinguished Senator John Owan Enoh influenced the citing of 29 solar water projects across the communities of Obubra L.G.A. These water projects is the only source of portable drinking water for the prople.
Senator Enoh organized a training programme for 55 farmers in partnership with (SMEDAN). Participants were trtained on different areas of farming. Participants also went home with grinding engines. He also registered JAMB candidates in Computer Based Test (CBT) test at Nogak Polytechnic Ikom. This assistance offered by Senator Enoh helped a greater number of the youths to pass the JAMB examination in flying colors and they were offered admission into different Universities on merit.
Senator Owan Enoh gives priority to the health and well being of his people. He sponsored the medical treatment for many people and offered financial assistance to others with health challenges.
He equally gives consideration to issues that bother on the welfare of his people especially in the area of marriages, birthday parties and burials. Senator Enoh is also known as “Political Network” because he has impacted on every household in Obubra.
Within the period under review, he organized a youth summit at Jorany Hotels, Ikom, in 2016 and 2017. Youths were exposed to different aspects of entrepreneurship by highly respected guest speakers he brought to Ikom for purpose.
Distinguished Senator Enoh has severally empowered the physical challenged (Disabled) and widows with wheelchairs and crutches, cash and a variety of food items.
He visited Onyodama, Ababene and Iyamitet communities during the crises between Oyodama, Inyima, Ababene and Iyamitet. He donated relief materials and cash to the warring communities. His visit to these communities brought peace.
Senator Enoh has full respect for the traditional institution and periodically pays homage to traditional rulers in Obubra. One of his visit to Adun Kingdom terminated at the Kudiden palace, Oderegha, where he took over the renovation/construction of the palace.
Senator Enoh established JOE foundation for diabetes with the sole aim of assisting people living and suffering from diabetes. Coordinators known as “public relation officers” amongst other staff were appointed to facilitate treatment of patients.
Senator Owan Enoh places emphasis on education as evidenced by the massive education support scheme he launched for students across the central senatorial district. In Obubra LGA, 20 JSS students, 20 SSCE students, 10 JAMB admission seekers, 10 undergraduates, and 1 post graduate per 11 wards were beneficiaries of this scheme. This is aside his direct assistance for the payment of school fees, projects and textbooks of students no covered by this scheme.
He facilitated the citing of erosion control project, grading and asphalting of kilometers road construction across the constituency.
Senator Owan Enoh provided a Toyota picnic bus to ease the movement of staff and supporters in Obubra and beyond. This is in addition to an ambulance stationed at Ugep to service Obubra and Abi during emergency situation.
Within the period under review, he sponsored a sports fiesta for both men and women in the LGA. The aim of the fiesta is to hunt for young talents that will compete with their counterparts across the country. Winners in various categories of sports were awarded different prizes at the end of the competition. It was also intended to bring peace amongst communities in Obubra.
Senator Enoh paid the mandatory N40,000 training fess each for 11 beneficiaries of National Peace Corps, which is aimed at reducing unemployment among Obubra youths.
Senator Enoh equally sponsored 11 Obubra people in Alliance International Networking Business with a start-up business pack of N70,000 each. This is meant our youths.
He equally gives priority attention to religion and assisted a number of churches/mosques in their development activities. Most recently, he spent millions of naira for the completion of a church building at Iyamitet community.
Senator Enoh is always with his people during festive periods. As has become his tradition, he gives financial supports to organization, communities and individuals during New Year celebration, Abu festival, Christmas, Eldi-kibri and Easter celebrations.
Senator Enoh conducted orientation programme for 11 ward coordinators to assimilate them into his legacy principles and to facilitate service/dividends of democracy to his constituents. He equally placed them on a monthly allowances.
The first two years has been filled with numerous activities/events carried out by the distinguished Senator John Owan Enoh within Ikom Local Government Area and the Central Senatorial district. Senator Enoh officially commenced the opening of six senatorial offices in the six local government areas he represents, wherein Ikom is one of them. it did not just end there, he appointed six liaison officers to head these offices whose principal responsibility is to liaise with his constituents at the grass root; receiving their different complaints through these offices. It is the first of its kind in the history of Cross River State politics.
Our distinguished and amiable Senator John Owan Enoh did not relent after this feat. He went further to organize a computer training programme for the teeming youths of Ikom, cutting across all young school leavers. Also, Senator Enoh organized the first edition of “Youths meet with Senator John Owan Enoh” to enable him understand the plight of the youth and people within Ikom Local Government Area. This created and opportunity for the Senator to understand and appreciate the position of the youths who are the leaders of tomorrow.
Furthermore, the distinguished Senator on assumption of office, within undertook a “thank you” tour across Ikom Local Government Area to appreciate the people for their votes and unflinching support given to him during his election.
In another development, the distinguished Senator had gathered and empowered the aged, widows, widowers, the blind and physically challenged with food items, cash wheelchairs, etc in Ikom Local Government Area. This gesture gulped over N25,000,000 (Twenty-five million naira only).
Recently, the Senator in his usual way of bringing the dividends of democracy to his people and keeping to his electoral promises, organized a scholarship scheme for students in JSS and SSCE, Undergraduate, Postgraduate and those registering for JAMB. About six thousand beneficiaries of the scheme could not hold their joy in appreciating the peoples' Senator.
Finally, in keeping with his electoral promises of attracting infrastructural development to Ikom Local Government Area, the distinguished Senator has facilitated the citing of several motorized boreholes to several communities in Ikom Local Government Area who have been cut off from water supply. This gesture has brought hope, confidence and belief in the system, as the people no longer trek to long distances to get water from the stream.
Also, to ensure that immediate attention is paid to erosion menace which has been a peculiar problem within Ikom urban, the distinguished Senator immediately attracted from the Federal Government the construction of a drainage channel from Riley street in Ikom town which emptiest at Atimaka (a River). This has helped in stopping over flooding, destruction of parameter fences, homes, etc. This project has been completed and is currently in use.
Still in this direction, another long drainage channel has been carried out by our distinguished Senator in Yala Nkum where the construction has been concluded and handed over to the Federal Ministry of Works.
The several projects, activities, etc carried out by the Senator have drastically reduced poverty and illiteracy through his ingenious empowerment and scholarship programmes. The construction of plethora of drainage systems within the many communities in Ikom have also helped to improve economic activities within such areas where these projects have been executed. These projects have helped to reduce transportation cost, led to improve access to social services, employment opportunities, creation of new markets for farm produce and also provided a platform for the improvement of the educational standard of students. The impact of Senator Enoh's several activities within Ikom Local Government Area cannot be over emphasized.
Distinguished Senator John Owan Enoh in 2017 benevolently bought the Nigeria Peace Corps form for over 22 persons drawn from the 11 ward in Ikom Local Government Area. In 2016, he created an opportunity for an interactive session with the civil defence, customs, fire service, road safety and a host of other organizations in Ikom Local Government Area. He has also provided solar street lights in Nde Community, Ikom Local Government Area.
In creating a good working relationship with his staff, he organized a staff retreat with the sole intent of repositioning his staff to support him to deliver effective representation to the people.
