Barring last minute change of mind, the Bayelsa State governor, Seriake Dickson will dissolve the current local government caretaker committees in all the eight council areas in the next few weeks.
One of those that is likely to be appointed to head a local government caretaker committee is a former militant leader, Africanus Ukparasia, popularly called General Africa.
The ex-militant leader who hails from Southern Ijaw local government area of the state is said to be Dickson's 'anointed' one for the juicy office in that area which is seen as a flash point for electoral violence.
While some observers of the polity see the proposed appointment of the former warlord as a welcome development, others consider it as having political connotations.
A Peoples Democratic Party chieftain in the state who preferred anonymity said as a man with vast security experience, Africanus would be of help during the elections in Southern Ijaw, if appointed.
"It is still a rumour so, I don't want my name to be mentioned on this matter. But in the real sense of it, the governor would be making the best appointment in the person of Gen. Africa.
"If he is finally appointed by the governor as it is being speculated, his appointment will be of vital importance at this critical time.
"With his security background as an ex-agitator, he will collaborate with security agencies to ensure peace in the area during the elections because he is very conversantt with the creeks", he reasoned.
However, a bigwig of the All Progressives Congress who also avoided being named said it was only political reasons that would motivate the governor to want to appoint an ex-militant leader as caretaker chairman few weeks to elections.
"We are not ignorant of Dickson's political antics. He did the same thing before the last governorship election when he appointed Joshua Maciver, a former militant leader whom he used to intimidate the people in Southern Ijaw, after which he dumped him.
"Now, it is the turn of Gen. Africa, he will also use him and abandon him. But I have to assure you that we are going to resist any attempt by the PDP to use violence to rig the elections for their candidates", he concluded.
