Why We Support Egbona - Yakurr People

Why We Support Egbona - Yakurr People

For Yakurr people of Cross River State, their decision to support Dr Alex Egbona, candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the Abi/Yakurr seat in the House of Representatives, is borne out of the conviction that he is the only one that has the history of selfless service, out of all those vying for the office.

This was made known at various villages where the Egbona campaign train visited. For instance, the Idomi, Ugep, Ekori people all in Yakurr Local Government Area, the young, old, women and men alike came out in their numbers to declare their support for Egbona.

Some of those who spoke about Egbona said “Chief has been a dependable brother over time as he is always readily available whenever he is called upon. To the youths, chief has been a champion of empowerment over time even when he was no longer in the corridors of power.

To the men, Chief has been more than a pillar of support and a fellow brother they have always turned to for help whenever they have needs.

In Ekori, the women practically revered Egbona. A particular woman actually chose to sweep the road for the car conveying Egbona to drive through. They said they in support of the former chief of staff in total.

Vice president of the Ekori Progressive Women Association, Mrs Comfort Michael Obeten, during the campaign flag- off, registered the total support of Ekori women for Egbona saying "Egbona is the only politician who has shown women of this community respect, we had event here and invited our representatives, he was the only one who honoured the women with his presence and support".

According to her" we will honour Dr. Alex Egbona with our votes because he honoured us when we needed honour with his presence and support during the lunching of our project. We have therefore decided to mandate our sons and husbands to vote for none but Alex Egbona".

Also speaking, the youth president, Afrekpe Ajere beach/ Epenti beach, Mr Inah Offor Inah pledged his support and that of the entire youths of his ward to Egbona, describing him as the political agbada of his time.

Egbona himself, in addressing the crowd everywhere he went said he would, as his character is, empower the youths and work towards creating job opportunities for others in need of jobs.

While at the palace of the Obol Lopon of Ugep, Egbona said “support the APC both at the national and state level to end bad governance in our country. I have done it before and will keep doing it, if you vote me I will create massive employment for the youths, add value to our farm products and register government's presence as well as end the inter communal amongst our people.

The Obol Lopon of Ugep HRM Obol Ofem Ubana in his speech described Egbona as a Yakurr son. He said the man had been tested and trusted and had been confirmed to be the man ready to take the entire Yakurr nation to see light.
