Kidnapper killed in Port Harcourt

Operatives of Rivers State Police Command and men of Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit in the state have killed two notorious armed robbers and arrested one with bullet wound.

Displaying the two criminals at the command headquarters at Moscow road, the Command Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni said the victims were involved in the kidnap of a lady whom they requested ransom of thirty million naira.

Omoni said the victims who are suspected kidnappers engaged the men of IGP Monitoring Unit led by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igwe in exchange of fire at their den in a community in Khana Local Government Area of the state when the police went to deliver the ransom of one million naira.

"This is a breathe taking achievement recorded by the command. The commissioner of police has promised to make Rivers State safe and habitable for all of us.

"And there won't be a place for the criminals in Rivers State. In less than a week after the assumption of office by the commissioner of Police, this is what we have achieved.

"A certain lady was kidnapped on the  6th of this month. Then, they also called for ransom of 30 million naira, and the men of the IGP monitoring unit were tracking them, following them, deploying their technical intelligence.

"At the end of which the ransom was given to them because they were playing along with them. We stormed the forest where they picked the ransom, on sighting the police with the open fire, two of them were fratally wounded, one got gun shots wound, and was arrested from that spot.

" And then, the said woman was rescued unhurt. Meanwhile, the ransom that was paid, the sum of one million naira was also recovered. We also got from them one FNC riffle, a pump action with 10 realms of ammunitions, the operational vehicle and the high lander Jeep.

"So the fight is still ongoing. The one that is alive will help us in getting others. He has promised to help the police in our investigation."

The rescued victim who spoke to newsmen said she was kidnapped on 6th of January this year around Woji in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, blindfolded and taken to unknown forest in a community in Khana Local government area.

" On 6th January, on Sunday evening, I was coming back from my sister's place at woji, when I tried to enter my street, I noticed there was a car following me, but as my gateman opened gate, I tried to enter the gate, I saw four guys stop at my back and started beating me, they dragged me inside their car.

" They blind folded my eyes immediately I entered their car. So, I don't even know where they took me to. I later found myself inside the forest.

" I stayed there from Sunday till thursday that police rescued me. I only drank two pure water from that Sunday till Thursday that I was rescued. "

The surviving kidnapper who identified himself as Barienee Kpogu narrated his role in the kidnap of the woman.

" I am from Ogoni, I am just a driver, they called me to drive them because one of them know very well that I'm a driver. They are all my community people, I don't know that they are kidnappers."
