Brisk Business For Hoteliers, Food Vendors
It was a period for brisk business for hotel owners and vendors of all sorts. By Friday night, all available hotels in Port Harcourt had been taken.
Even hotels considered to be for short-time services were also taken, as visitors into the Rivers State capital clearly out-numbered the number of hotels rooms.
As a result of the scarcity of hotel, their owners took advantage of the development to increase the price of their rooms. In some cases, the increase was more than 100 per cent. Even at that, people were willing to pay.
Food vendors also had a field day within and around the convention ground. Some of the delegates had gone to the venue as early as 10am, in anticipation that the event would commence early.
As they could not leave the stadium in search of food, they found solace in the hands of food dealers who were available around the area.
