Rivers State governor, Chief Nyesom Wike was forced to congratulate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of PDP at the convention ground on Sunday afternoon.
It all began when counting of votes were almost completed and Wike was very sad. The sadness was written on his face and visible for everyone to see.
At that point, Bukola Saraki summoned courage and congratulated Atiku. Then, other aspirants and governors began to do same.
Akwa Ibom State governor, Udom Emmanuel, Senator Dino Melaye and Tammy Danagogo, a former minister of sports, enjoined Wike to go and congratulate Atiku.
But twice, Wike spoke in pidgin English, saying ”I no go go”, “I no go go”.
When pressure became too much, he walked straight to Atiku with his dark goggles, looked up and gave Atiku a hard hand shake.
After that, he walked out of the venue and drove off without staying to witness the ceremonial conclusion of the convention.
Sources close to Government House said that the vexation affected every activity in Government House. Everybody knew that the governor was not happy.
A PDP stalwart who pleaded to remain anonymous said that he observed the reaction and that the attitude of Wike was ungentlemanly.
“In politics, you either win or lose. You may not win at all times”, he said.
Another chieftain said his mood probably may be because of the amount of Rivers money he spent in supporting Tambuwal.
