C'River Community Honours Unical VC

It was an awesome day in Obudu LGA, CRS, as the people of Bebuatsuan in  Obudu Local Government Area, came out enmasse to honour one of their distinguished sons, Prof. Zana Akpagu,  vice chancellor of the University of Calabar with a traditional title of "ASHITUNDIYE of OBUDU".

In his opening remarks, the chairman of the occasion, a former Director General, Nigeria Meterological Agency,  High Chief Eugene Akeh, said the honour was based on  his outstanding virtues of generosity, hard work,  charity, commitment and his remarkable contributions to the growth and development of Cross River State in particular and Nigeria in general.

According to him, the vice chancellor is a man that stands by the truth and enjoined the younger generation to emulate his good works while thanking the Community for organising the civic reception in his honour.

Also speaking,  the chairman, Bebuatsuan Development Association, Mr Agianpuye Francis Adie said the traditional title conferred on the Vice Chancellor means that his generosity and kindness knows no bounds and his love and care for all is without partiality.

He maintained that Akpagu's footprints, developmental strides and unprecedented transformation of the University of Calabar are not hidden and this has made him an iconic administrator.

He lauded the the vice chancellor's vision of making UNICAL one of the highest ranking universities in Nigeria.

In his remarks, a former member, House of Representatives, Mr Paul Ada, described Akpagu as the pride of Obudu and a man with outstanding contributions that have impacted so many lives.

Responding, the vice chancellor thanked Bebuatsuan community  for the honour bestowed on him and also, thanked God for using him as a vessel to render services to humanity, adding that all the achievements recorded in the University are dedicated to his management team.
