A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Akwa Ibom State, Otu Ita Toyo has said that the party is on the path of ideological purity. Toyo stated that the party, led by President Muhammadu Buhari has a future for Nigeria through its
frontal war against corruption and practical modalities adopted to enhance economic revolution.
Toyo, himself a senatorial aspirant into the Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District, reasoned that although there were infiltration of shallow thoughts and sharp practices among political players in the country, the affairs and programmes of the party were pointedly driven towards providing ideological template that will salvage Nigeria from the dungeon of ideological deficit.
"I spent four hours with the committee at the Ibom Hotels and Gulf Resort, talking restructuring and the committee wondered how I knew so much about it. I simply told them the truth. The truth is that as a minority person, at about the seventh place of minorities, I should be living restructuring every day of my life so that I can be reached when Nigeria's fortunes are put on the table.
"The Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District makes the largest contributions to the National vault. Yet our maritime and marine resources are virtually in the stone age, other sources of revenue are unexplored while our lands lie bespoiled by the very oil which has built up other parts of Nigeria.
"Our roofs rust away from acid rain while aquatic life wither as their habitat is polluted by extractive activities. The economic environment lies prostrate and our people are left with no option but driven to prey on each other for survival. ALSCON and the Fishing Terminal, the only significant federal economic institutions in the district have been in suspended animation for years. Surely we deserve more and better", he explained.
Toyo who emphasized the need to bring the Nigerian state to the economic reality of his people who have been subjected to very limited opportunities, blamed the situation on the people's long years of mediocre representation across all representative posts and promised that as a man with proven capacity, exposure and passion-driven experience, he will become a strong, practiced and knowledgeable voice for the liberation of his people.
"Poverty has no reason to have presence in our midst. We must liberate ourselves from its claws. Nigerians of other climes, emirate councils, obaship courts and foreign corporations make unimaginable profits and receive funding from our resources but our citizens, councils of traditional rulers and businesses are shut out of the game. Out there on our waters, oil blocks are shared out with scant regard for our presence. There must be constitutional protection for every indigenous community whose resources sustain the country.
"To bring this woeful reality forcefully to the attention of the world and to kick start a national healing process through corrective legislation which will provide safeguards for the productive communities such as ours, we need a strong, practiced and knowledgeable voice in Abuja. We cannot afford to continue doing the same thing and expect to get a different result.
"We need persons with proven capacity, experience and exposure to deliver on this important project. This is no time to gamble with destiny or compensate loyal supporters. It is the time to build the future.
"At the risk of sounding immodest, my records in public and private services testify to my qualification to represent us at the Senate and get the job done. That is why I have come out to serve. l will get this job done, as usual. That's my promise, my word.
"We are unfortunate victims of mediocre representation and we must be prepared to get out of it. We must send competent legislators. It is the duty of government to guide the young men in the right direction. I want to go to the Senate to speak restructuring for a better future of Nigeria. There is just about four or five years to achieve that. And it is quite timely that we just have to be there.
