Court Verdict: Bayelsa’s Car-For-Miracle Prophet Has Case To Answer

Court Verdict: Bayelsa’s Car-For-Miracle Prophet Has Case To Answer

Trouble is not over yet for the founder of God is Able Mega Fire Ministry, Apostle Kingsley Abiekunogho who is facing trial in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state for alleged fraudulent collection of his member's Sport Utility Vehicle, SUV, in exchange for an expected miracle.

Kingsley was arraigned in March 2018 before a Magistrate's court sitting in Yenagoa for fake prophecy and obtaining an SUV from his member, Sayou Jones, under false pretence.

The General Overseer had, through his counsel,  Chuks Egbulonu, filed a no case submission, praying Magistrate Utomvie Eke-Spiff to quash the charges against him for lack of merit.

In her ruling on Wednesday, Eke-Spiff dismissed the application, insisting that Kingsley had a case to answer.

The magistrate noted that the decision of the court to throw out the no case submission, among other things, was influenced by a document before her which serves as an exhibit in the case.

"The court notes that the change of ownership document was signed personally by Apostle Kingsley Abiekunogho as the new owner of the SUV.

"This is even as the ownership of the said car was said to have been transferred to God is Able Mega Fire Ministry.

"The court therefore notes that the accused signed personally as the new owner of the car. The accused person can only come to explain the reason behind all of that.

"Immediately I saw that document, I quickly rounded up my ruling. There is something in this matter for which the court wants to hear more. As a result, the no case submission is hereby dismissed", she concluded.

The case was adjourned to September 12, 2018 for hearing.

It could be recalled that in September, 2017, Sayou was invited to a programme tagged: This Burial Must Not Hold, at the God is Able Mega Fire Ministry in Yenagoa.

During the programme, according to Sayou, a guest speaker, Pastor Chris who was invited by the G.O, called on members to sow seeds and he (Sayou) pledged the sum of N20,000, adding that he and others were charged by Pastor Chris to redeem their pledges on or before a week's time.

The complainant lamented that his problem started on the day he went to the church to redeem his pledge where he addressed himself as Hon. Sayou Jones.

He said Pastor Chris immediately called him out of the crowd that went to redeem their pledges, tapped him three times, and asked him to go and lie at the altar.

Sayou said "he came to me at the altar and tapped my shoulder again and again and asked how many bank accounts I had and I told him, one. He further asked how much was in my account and I told him, N15,000 and that I borrowed N5,000 from a friend to make up the N20,000 I pledged",

He said Pastor Chris went on to ask him how many cars he had and their brands and he answered that he had only one four-runner Toyota Jeep.

The complainant recounted that Pastor Chris then ordered him to donate the SUV to the church and receive a double fold of what he has donated in a period of one month.

Sayou narrated that it took him some weeks to realize that he had parted ways with his only vehicle, lamenting that life became more miserable for him months after the prophecy of financial breakthrough which made him submitted his car.

The situation, he said, prompted him to go back to Apostle Kingsley to ask for his car but was told that his vehicle had been sold, a situation that made him to report the matter at the Yenagoa Area Police Command.

The Investigative Police Officer, Mr. Oyakhilome Obame had told the court that the accused person reluctantly produced the said car after he was detained in police custody, following months of refusal to submit the car.

The IPO said Apostle Kingsley had claimed that the car was sold at the sum of N1.5 million while the buyer was now claiming N3 million before he could release the car.

He also said that Apostle Kingsley claimed he could not read or write hence he (IPO) wrote his statement fir him on the day he was arrested.
