... Go After Young Girls In Ukanafun

There has been a new and worrisome twist to the activities of militants in Ukanafun and Etim Ekpo Local

Government Areas. The armed boys are now going after young girls in Ukanafun.

In the last one week, about 10 girls are said to have been kidnapped in Ikot Ibekwe, Nkek and other neighbouring villages of Ikot Inyang Abia and Ikot Akpa Nkuk. They go in motorcyles and any girl they find in a loose position becomes a victim.

A few days ago, the hoodlums stormed Ikot Ibekwe village and picked twin sisters. They were said t have taken them to a deserted building in the village where they were dumped in separate rooms.

Hours later, after the kidnapers had left them, one of the sisters was said to have crawled out of the house and walked into a nearby bush. But her sister was left alone in the

It was not clear if they defiled the girl during the three days she spent with the hoodlums. But it was learnt their mother managed to produce N30,000 for the hoodlums as ransom before her daughter was released.

The militants were said to have escorted the girl back to their house a day after they collected the ransom. A day after that, they also went back to the woman to inform her that her second daughter was no more in their custody.

A similar incident took place at Nkek on Friday evening. Sources said a female fashion designer was kidnapped on her duty post in the village, after they killed a man, Mr Akpa Itam, who had come out upon hearing the shouts from the girl as she struggled with the militants before they took her away.

This is coming just as soldiers were able to kill two of the suspected militant at Iwukem, Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of the state, on Friday morning.

Police spokesman in Akwa Ibom, did not take our calls when we tried to reach him for confirmation of the stories.
