Duke Donates Wheel Chairs, Crutches To Physically Challenged In Calabar

It was a day of joy for some physically challenged persons in Calabar when a governorship aspirant under

the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River state, High Chief Edem Duke, donated 10 wheel chairs and 10 crutches to them.

He announced the donations in Calabar when members of APC Persons With Disabilities paid him a courtesy visit.

 The former minister for Culture and Tourism in his speech at the event spoke on the need to have representatives of physically challenged persons in government in order to give them special attention.

“If I get APC ticket, I will establish special entrepreneurship centre for the employment of people with disability. Such centres exist in other parts of the world where special persons are conveyed in special vehicles to produce fabric.

“You need a man of integrity to accomplish this promise. I will support sportsmen who are physically challenged. Those who are also good in arts and crafts as well as those who can sing will be encouraged to practice their skills to earn a living,” he said.

Earlier, the state coordinator of APC Persons With Disabilities, Offiong Effanga, spoke of the challenges they face and said Duke was competent to help them overcome the challenges through employment and award of scholarship to indigent ones in tertiary institutions.

“We are faced with various challenges which we anticipate are within your competence to assist us resolve. In this regards, we request you to include our members in your programmes. This is so because despite our disability, our members would vote at the general elections that will be held in 2019.

“As party faithful, we are poised to mobilize our members to come out en mass to vote for the candidate that will represent our party in the governorship election in particular and other elections in general,” he said
