Tears are expected to pour on Thursday in Kalabari land, when the remains of Mr Joe Blankson
are expected to be buried. Blankson, 36, died, apparently out of exhaustion, after he rescued 13 victims of a boat accident.
What happened to him is a reminder of the biblical injunction that “there is no greater love which a man can show than to lay down his life for his friends. The first person to have demonstrated this kind of love was Jesus Christ, so many years ago.
Blankson, a contractor who supplies diesel and a father of two very young children singlehandedly rescued 13 persons when a boat capsized along the Abonnema- Bakana waterways in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The boat was said to have conveyed 25 persons including the driver, from Abonnema wharf to Bakana before the accident occurred around Iborama. Six persons were reported to have lost their precious lives.
Since the father of two children died, the social media has been agog with calls the immortalisation of Blankson.
The sudden death of Blankson in the course of trying to save victims of a boat mishap on a trip to Bakana is currently attracting deserve attention, grief and tributes across Rivers State..
Although his nuclear and extended families are still in shock, residents of Bakana have hailed Blankson , the hero for his selfless acts of love and bravery which cost him his life. When TNN visited his family house, no member of the family was willing to speak on his death.
