Police/Army clash: Calm returns as police seek peaceful resolution

The police in Rivers State say efforts will be intensified to ensure that the clash between them and the Nigerian Army does not escalate beyond control.

Police spokesman, Nnandi Omoni told TNN in a telephone interview on Thursday that the two uniform agencies have had a long history of cordial relationship which he said would be nurtured and preserved.

He would not say what was being done on the clash which led to the sack of the Ada George Police Station and release of detainees allegedly the angry soldiers who stormed the station to protest the killing of their colleague by a policeman.

Omoni said he was just returning to Port Harcourt and did not have details of the incident that led to the sack of the police station. But he confirmed that he was aware of the development.
