Security operatives in Akwa Ibom State have killed another militant leader. He is Nnyieowo John Ufot, popularly known in the militants' world as Focus.
Focus was brought down on Saturday along with two others at Uruk Atta village in Etim Ekpo Local Government of the state.
Sources in that village said Focus had positioned himself to be the leader of militants in Ukanafun and Etim Ekpo, after Iso Akpafid, Stainless and Item, the trio that have since been killed.
He was said to have been the leader of terrorists in Uruk Atta. Most people fled the village because of his activities. According to sources, Focus was killed in a thatched house that had been abandoned by the owner, owing to the activities of the militants.
One of the natives told TNN over the telephone that Focus had actually given notice to some indigenes of the village, after they challenged his authority, when he told one of them that he would soon raze his building and chase him out of the village.
The operative who killed him was said to have shot him in the leg. After he was shot, he tried to stand up to fight back but more bullets were pumped into his waist before he finally gave up.
Two of his boys were also said to have been gunned down same day. The villagers trooped to go and see his lifeless body before the police took the bodies away.
Police spokesman, Macdon Idoko confirmed to TNN over the telephone that the militant had been killed. He would not give further details.
But on the same day, some other militants operated freely between Ikot Inyang Udo and Idung Uko Udo in Ukanafun. They shot sporadically into the air at Ikot Inyang Udo where a burial was taking place.
It was learnt that they went there to be settled by the burial organisers. It was not clear if they got what they expected. But TNN learnt that the militants had to leave the venue and started harassing people on the road for money, not masked, but armed with pump action guns.
