Speaker of the Cross River State house of assembly, John Gaul Lebo is planning to extend his free medical scheme to neighbouring Yakurr Local Government, after its successful take-off in Abi Local Government where he comes from.
Speaking at the event to mark the flag-off of the scheme in Abi, the speaker said it took him a long time to put the project together because he wanted to put in place a fool proof exercise which will have maximum effect on the people.
Some of the beneficiaries who thronged the School of Nursing, Itigidi, venue of the flag off, praised Lebo's initiative and prayed that God would grant him the grace to do more.
The speaker said the medical outreach which would last for 10 days, would be taken to all the wards in Abi LGA. However, those whose medical cases need specialist care, he disclosed, would have the free medicare extended so that conclusive medical care can be dispensed to help restore them to good health.
Jones Williams, member representing Yakurr II State Constituency in the House of Assembly who was guest at the event appealed to the speaker to extend the free medicare to neighbouring Yakurr, a plea Nelson Ofem, member representing Yakurr I State Constituency, who also accompanied the speaker to the occasion, corroborated.
Lebo, bowing to pressure from his colleagues, accepted to extend the service to Yakurr and pledged to do more in furtherance of his social responsibility to the people.
An elated Ovai Edward Osim, village head of Usumutong and Paramount Ruler of Abi LGA, thanked the speaker for the gesture and promised that information about the free medicare programme will be properly disseminated to the people of the area.
