NCC Queries Telecom Operators Over Illegal Charges

The National Communication Commission (NCC) has queried operators of Global System of Mobile communication (GSM) for their alleged fraudulent charges and refusal to return unused data to subscribers.

Director, Consumer Affairs of National Communication Commission Abdullahi Maikano said this during the 92nd edition of consumer outreach programme being an annual interaction between the telecommunication consumers and the operators in the industry held at Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State.

Maikano explained that the initiative was taken by National Communication Commission to ensure that the right of subscribers were protected in line with the commission's constitutional responsibility.

Maikano directed all the network operators that were present at the forum to present to their management, the issue arbitrary seizure of subscribers' funds in the guise of “expired data” to refrain from same or face appropriate sanctions.

The deputy director, consumer Affairs Bureau Alhaji Ismail Adedija told the subscribers that the tripartite meeting between the regulators, operators and consumers was organized to resolve pressing issues in the telecom industry.

In reaction, consumers appreciated the National Communication Commission (NCC) for their timely intervention in their affairs and appealed to the operators to provide quality services and take all the observations as a means to help them serve Nigerians better rather than taking them as criticisms.
