Why We Are Embarking On Early Christmas Decoration –UNICAL

The decoration and beautification of the main gate of the University of Calabar and other places on campus ahead of this year's Christmas and the New Year is to put the students in Christmas mood.

This was the explanation of Dr. Joseph Ekpang, head of the information unit of the university.

He told TNN that the desire to be the first to herald Christmas mood prompted the early decoration for the yuletide season.

He said the students had finished their semester examinations and they had to be put in Christmas mood before they travel for Christmas and New Year festivities.

“What we intend to do is to produce a short video of the decoration and put it on the internet,” Dr. Ekpang said.

A few weeks ago, TNN observed workers decorating the main gate of the University of Calabar, the veranda of the entrance into the administrative building and other strategic places on Campus.

Colourful linen, effigies of Father Christmas and other items adorn some of the locations on campus earlier mentioned.

These have added to the beautiful ambience of the university, made so by the well-kept green lawns and median from the main gate.

When the decoration started about three weeks ago, some students were overhead asking at the main gate whether a dignitary was visiting the university.

The students' curiosity was laid to rest when Father Christmas effigies started surfacing, in addition to other distinct decorations associated with Christmas and the New Year festivities.
