CRUTECH And Prof Owan Enoh: The Way Forward

Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH) started on September 2, 2002 and accredited or recognized by the National University Commission (NUC) in 2004. The vision of this University is to make it a “CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE IN TECHNOLOGY, with highly qualified staff and excellent teaching and research facilities for production of graduates that can compete with their peers anywhere in the world”. The mission of the University is “to produce well trained graduates and researchers in Science and Technology, equipped for active participation in social-economic development” The Motto is “Technology for Human Advancement”.  This is for it to be a world-class Institution for academic excellence really geared towards meeting the needs of the society.

For us to advance beyond where we are today, we must sacrifice ourselves in prayers, commitment and dedication. Our hands must really be on deck, if we are to achieve our vision and mission of this Institution. We must follow in the fight, teaching and preaching of Professor A. Owan Enoh to shun those negative devices that will run down the progress of this Institution

The time has come for us to stand up and support the wind of change of the administration of Prof. Anthony Owan Enoh, we should not allow ourselves to be distracted, for “A broom stick bound together is difficult to break compared to a single broom stick”. I can proudly say that, within fifteen years of existence of Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH), it has stood the test of time.  For I believe that the older the wine, the better for those who knows the value of the good wine. This has reminded me of the proverbial statement that, “even if the Calabash designer is no more, his original designs will always be around to speak for his skills”. This I mean, the past glory of the defunct, The Polytechnic, Calabar, which metamorphosed alongside College of Education, Akamkpa and College of Agriculture, Obubra into the present Institution, Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH) is today blessed with a visionary and exemplary leadership personified, in the person of Prof. A. Owan Enoh. Our vision as his subjects must therefore be in tandem with his vision in order to attain prestige.  For one thing I know is that, experience is not picked at a Market.  He is an academia and a seasoned administrator. He is a pragmatic leader, who has CRUTECH Community at heart and had a great sense of humour. This is a man who has not kept official files overnight untreated.

However, one thing I believe is this, no matter how good you are, you must be criticized in one way or the other.  If rebellion could take place in Heaven, where the Almighty God and host of Angels live, then, there is nothing you will do for humans, that they will not criticize you.  His success stories of his numerous achievements has made people to nicknamed him “A MAN OF DEVELOPMENT” even right from College of Education (COE), Akamkpa when he was provost. Prof.  Anthony Owan Enoh, is a man who stands out very tall among his peers.  Notwithstanding, he is seen as an administrator that always clothe himself with maturity. This is a man who is not so good as being a rabble-rouser or playing to the gallery.  Looking at the development oriented programmes of this indefatigable leader, a technocrat and who is a great administrator of our generation, one would be forced to believe that, his position as Vice Chancellor is to introduce strategies meant to help the students to become outstanding and extraordinary in their academic pursuits. MORE IMPORTANTLY, to create measures to put in place zero tolerance for examination malpractices and other irregularities in the school.  For the era of hooliganism and gansterism has gone for the good of this University.  We can not afford to bring back those things, that have been written off from our system. For the Bible has this to say: “Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee”. Isaiah 60:1.

We need to really arise, to build up CRUTECH and to make it globally competitive.

Prof. A. Owan Enoh, likes to put his vehicle steering of administration towards the signatory projects of the incumbent, the digital and executive Governor of Cross River State, Senator (Prof.) Ben Ayade, who have put smile on the faces of Cross Riverians.  For his developmental strides so far recorded by his administration in this state.  Cross Riverians and CRUTECH community in particular need to doff their hats for this great man (Senator (Prof.) Ben Ayade) a patriotic Nigerian, who upon his tight schedules, found time to visit and addressed both staff and students of this University.  The first Cross River State Governor to act on this capacity, despite our matriculations and convocations ceremonies. To me, the digital Governor (Senator (Prof.) Ben Ayade merited unquantifiable appreciation from us, for his gesture for this University. I can strongly attest that, Cross River is the only state that can boast of having two “Academic Generals” (PROFESSORS)

Governor and Deputy Governor respectively, among the thirty-six states in Nigeria. The state is the luckiest if I may say, to have these great men as Governor and Deputy Governor. We should all support Senator (Prof.) Ben Ayade's signatory projects to really bring up this state to centre of attraction for tourism and investment.

We have need  to appreciate the incumbent Vice Chancellor  (Prof. A. Owan Enoh)  who is   shouldering  the onerous  job  of   performing   the  over  sight functions in this period, when the system is beset with the serious problems of insecurity on campus, access quality assurance and poor funding.
