Port Harcourt based comic star, Yankari Williams popularly known as Alhaji Yanka Kudi, has expressed disappointment over what he calls the relegation of entertainment industry in Rivers State.
The entertainer who spoke with TNN said “must we all run to Lagos before we can return like Malaysia boys? Transport from Kaduna to Port Harcourt, na joke? Rivers State Government, Oga Wike, no dey try at all. For entertainment, na zero, he is not trying. Entertainment industry is the least, unrecognized industry in this state regardless of its contribution to the socio-economic, political, welfare, warfare, development, etc to the growth of the nation. If you no laugh, dance, watch film, wetin you gain?”.
Expressing his disappointment, the Kaduna born comedian said “we, the northerners are known for cattle rearing, growing of onions, tomatoes, carrots, we know, they know, we've also known Rivers State as our Lagos, a state that houses entertainers, where opportunities open through homour. But today, it's not so, Entertainment industry is decaying, it's impoverished”.
Reacting to why he left his state for Rivers state, the satirist said “looking for where what I do is recognized, accepted, valued, that's all, but I am very disappointed. Entertainers in Rivers state, including PH entertainers, are disappointed. Nothing comes out. You've been in Rivers State. Is entertainment industry making waves here? No, it's everyone mind your business; it used to be better in Rivers State. Entertainment should have metamorphosed into an industry that can accommodate and set standards for the upcoming but unfortunately most persons have grown grey hair still struggling in the industry, yet having nothing to show for.
