Rising Incidences Of Rape Of Minors: A Call To Action

Last week, Rivers State deputy governor, Dr Ipalibo Banigo lashed out at the Nigeria Police for clandestinely releasing suspects arrested on charges of the rape of a 15 year old girl in Port Harcourt. This development caught many napping as it was least expected that any law enforcement agency, much less the police, could perpetrate such outrageous act, being the prime enforcer of the laws of this country and chief protector of the fundamental rights of citizens, most especially the under-aged, underprivileged and downtrodden in the society.

The inauguration of the All Progressives Congress, APC, caucus in Akwa Ibom last weekend has what it takes to be considered a rebirth for the main opposition in the state. The event, which was also end-of-the-year stakeholders' parley for the South-South , was a gathering of who's who in the party in the state and zone. It was, indeed, the first time, since the party lost the battle to preside over the affairs of the oil-rich state that the majors and the minions of the party in the state met in a formal meeting.

Hardship Hits Commissioners In Cross River, Rivers Bayelsa

The times are hard for officials of most state governments in the South-South, TNN can authoritatively reveal. Despite the drama and grandstanding by the various governments most of their officials including commissioners, special advisers, and heads of boards, commissions and agencies, among several other aides are groaning, though silently, under the burden of survival.
