Uneasy Calm, As UNICAL Suspends Three Students For Forgery, Cultism

Barely a month after the suspension of a student of the institution over cult related offence, three more students of the University of Calabar have been suspended, this time for various offences.

A statement from the university said the vice chancellor, Prof. Zana Akpagu has already approved the suspension. One student, Bassey Ekpenyong Divine, a 400 level student, was suspended for forging result sheets.

His counterpart,  Ofem Hope David, a 300-level student of the Department of Theatre, Film and Media Studies was also suspended over a robbery case while Collins Oden Agbor, a 300-level student of the Department of Genetics and Biotech was suspended for cultism.

According to the statement, the students have been banned from accessing the university, until their invitation to appear before the disciplinary panel.

A few weeks ago, a student of the university was suspended by the authorities over alleged involvement in cultism.

Suicide Incidents: Port Harcourt Pastors Speak

Evangelist Michael Gabriel:

There are so many reasons why people commit suicide. There is a case of a child who committed suicide because her classmates were making mockery of her, some are marital crises, break-ups in relationships, failure in exams. A kid was frustrated because he was not making good grades, some end their life because of hardship, challenges. People commit suicide when they are in so much debt. I heard a case of a man who was owing and thought the only way out is to jump into the lagoon. There are cases of people who are unable to fend for themselves; some are frustrated when they graduate and not able to secure a job. Trending now is the one related to failed relationship, when a man or a woman says he/she is no longer interested in a relationship.

Investigations by our correspondent show that the reasons are multidimensional, and his earlier romance with the state governor had gone soar even before the 2019 general elections.
