Port Harcourt Shopping Mall To Resume Operations Tomorrow

The Rivers State Government has assured members of the public that the Port Harcourt Shopping Mall will resume operations, tomorrow, Thursday the 13th of June 2019 as the minor fire incident that damaged the facility has been contained. 

 

Representative of the Rivers State Governor and Secretary to the State, Dr Tammy Danagogo gave the assurance in the late hours of today after inspecting the facility alongside the Management of the Mall.

 

He said he was directed by the Governor to conduct on the spot assessment because of the importance of the facility. 

 

He expressed happiness that the management of the mall has been able to contain the fire stressing that those injured in the incident will receive adequate medical treatment.

 

Accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information,  Mr Paulinus Nsirim and the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government,  Dr George Nwaeke. Dr. Tammy asked the management of the Port Harcourt Shopping Mall to meet with the State Government tomorrow at the State Secretariat to further discuss other aspects of the incident and possible areas of intervention by the State Government. 

 

In her remarks, Mrs. Chioma Okorie, Manager of the Mall, said: “the fire incident broke out in a kitchen of one of the shops in the facility, but the firefighting equipment and officials of the mall helped in putting out the fire. A few persons were injured as a result of the fire incident. The facility will be opened to the public tomorrow, Thursday after the smoke would have cleared out”.

Reaction to the development, Chairman of the State APC Youth causes, Obong Iniobong John alleged that the state governor, Udom Emmanuel spent about N1.5 billion to get endorsement of local government chairmen to sign against the autonomy.

Residents Decry Blackout In Eneka Community

Residents of Eneka Community in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State have condemned what they described as the epileptic nature of power supply in the area.

Speaking with TNN on Saturday, most respondents, especially business owners expressed displeasure over the treatment of Power Holding Distribution Company meted to Eneka people, frowning on their continual contribution for the payment of electricity bill yet not having electricity to use.
